Sakeenah Homes

Brand Identity & Social Media Management

Every night, thousands of women and children in Canada face homelessness, poverty, and trauma.

Sakeenah Homes is on a mission to change that.

 Brand Identity

Colours + Inclusive Imagery + Language

Sakeenah Homes is a women’s shelter that provides services to women and children seeking help out of unfortunate situations such as abuse, trauma, and homelessness.

Their use of a welcoming and open colour palette further bolsters their intent to be inclusive of women and children from all backgrounds, races, socioeconomic statuses, and more.

The imagery that I developed along with the Sakeenah Homes team involves a serious yet relatable tone that allows their audience to empathize, educate, and inform themselves around topics such as domestic violence, mental health awareness, and more. This tone is consistent across all internal and external communication materials.

Sakeenah Homes puts in the effort to consistently include all women, especially in their choice of words. They refrain from using language that blames victims and instead attempt to include victims that experience any and all situations.

Logo Design

When Sakeenah Homes approached me with the request of solidifying their overall brand identity, I began with their logo design. While the original logo design was beautifully made with the nest symbol resembling a warm and welcoming home accompanied by the brand name, Sakeenah Homes required a few additional orientations in order to better represent their brand on various communication materials. Hence, the below three orientations were developed to provide some visual interest and for situations in which space is limited.

Website Redesign

In the process of solidifying Sakeenah Homes’ brand, I was sure to provide them with the full rebrand experience which included major updates to the overall style and voice of their website on Squarespace. Due to the heavy traffic they receive, this website is required to be easily accessible and have quick navigation for both their potential donors and women seeking their available services. As can be seen above, the website is clean and spacious allowing for easy reading and accessibility. All aspects of the website are clearly labelled and designed with both desktop and mobile users in mind. The colour scheme is consistent and continues to speak with the same tone found across Sakeenah Homes’ other communication avenues.
